UHS Newsletter, 4/20

Note from the Director

Hello UHS residents,

Welcome to week four of the residence life newsletter. I just wanted to take a moment to remind you to continue to take care of yourselves, and seek resources if you need them. One resource I’d like to highlight is the CPP Basic Needs Emergency Grant. The purpose of this grant is to support student success by providing a one-time grant of up to $500 to assist with an unforeseen emergency, crisis, or catastrophic event. This grant is a last resort source of funding for students who cannot reasonably resolve their financial difficulty through scholarships, loans or other Financial Aid awards. To apply, students must be able to demonstrate how the nature of the crisis impacts them financially and their ability to persist and complete their education. Learn about grant eligibility and how to apply here.

Be Safe,

Reyes Luna

Director, Residence Life

From the Blog

We are thankful to have three Faculty In Residence living on campus and supporting our students! This week, Dr. Stovall introduces us to her pups, Bookie and Breezie.

In this post, RA Rachel shares the importance of continued movement.

It is an expectation that all residents cover their faces with a cloth face when leaving their rooms. When entering Centerpointe, it is a requirement to wear a mask when entering the building. Face coverings can be a scarf, or a homemade cloth face mask. Here are tutorials about how to make your own face mask.

This Week’s Picks

What our team is up to this week. This week we are sharing picks from Senior Coordinator, Felirose Tamparong:

  • Currently Watching: Ozark because I’m caught up on my shows until a new episode comes out. Unfortunately, some shows decided now was the time to have their season finale. I consistently watch Grey’s Anatomy, Little Fires Everywhere, This is Us, Killing Eve, Queen Sugar. There are so many more, it’s hard to keep up. Modern Love is also a good Amazon Movie. I recommend that for a feel-good rom com mini-series. I’m open to recommendations.

  • Currently Playing: I’m currently playing “How to get more sleep...” Just kidding! I’m not much of a video gamer but musically I’m just playing what pops up in my Spotify. No one in particular. Again, I’m always open musical recommendations.

  • Currently Reading: “The Latinos of Asia: How Filipino American’s Break the Rules of Race” written by Cal Poly Pomona’s very own Dr. Anthony C. Ocampo.

  • Currently Eating: Homemade Hilton Double Tree Cookies, and Centerpointe Dining Commons because I still work on campus.
